Inclusion & diversity

We’re a human business

We care about our people. We respect people’s values and cultural heritage, protecting human rights and fostering inclusion and diversity.

Just like our diverse customers and communities worldwide, our people come from all sorts of backgrounds. That’s a lot of experiences, ideas and ways of doing things to share and bring to life. We’ve made great progress in this area, and we know we can continue to do better. We’re committed to continuing to focus on how we can support inclusion and diversity across our business at all levels through initiatives, opportunities and practical activities.

Get involved in a culture of belonging

In 2022, BlueScope became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), recognising our commitment to human rights and good labour practices, to protecting the environment and to work against corruption.

We are proud to be a part of the 40:40 vision, an initiative led by Australia’s investor community to achieve gender balance in executive leadership. In 2022, we maintained our gender balance ratio for our Board and Executive Leadership Team. Now, our workforce has 24 per cent women, and more work is being done to reflect the communities in which we operate.

Join one of BlueScope’s employee resource groups on disability and inclusion, and employee care. The aim of the groups is to connect people who want to make a difference and challenge the way we do things so people can thrive at work.

Cultural diversity

In Australia we have developed a First Nations Framework to grow and support the representation of First Nations people within our business, supply chains and communities. At BlueScope Buildings North America where 41 per cent of people identify as ethnically diverse, people can become a Diversity Ambassador at one of the sites to advocate and champion inclusion in the workplace.

Disability

At BlueScope Mexico, learn about inclusive language, including sign language to better understand some of the challenges faced by 6 per cent of Mexico’s population who have a disability.  Initiatives like this open the door to recruit more people with a disability.
